Epithelial inflammasomes in the defense against Salmonella gut infection

نویسندگان

چکیده

The gut epithelium prevents bacterial access to the host's tissues and coordinates a number of mucosal defenses. Here, we review function epithelial inflammasomes in infected host focus on their role defense against Salmonella Typhimurium. This pathogen employs flagella swim towards type III secretion system (TTSS) dock invade intestinal cells. Flagella TTSS components are recognized by canonical NAIP/NLRC4 inflammasome, while LPS activates non-canonical Caspase-4/11 inflammasome. relative contributions these inflammasomes, activated cell death pathways elicited defenses subject environmental control appear change along infection trajectory. It will be an important future task explain how this may enable challenges imposed diverse enteropathogens.

Role of inflammasomes in host defense against Citrobacter rodentium infection.

Citrobacter rodentium is an enteric bacterial pathogen of the mouse intestinal tract that triggers inflammatory responses resembling those of humans infected with enteropathogenic and enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli. Inflammasome signaling is emerging as a central regulator of inflammatory and host responses to several pathogens, but the in vivo role of inflammasome signaling in host defense...

Role of Inflammasomes in Salmonella Infection

Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) play a crucial role in both the detection of pathogens and the activation of the innate immune system. Nod-like receptors (NLR) family members are cytosolic PRRs that sense bacterial products or endogenous danger signals. Recent evidence suggests that NLRs contribute to the detection of Salmonella through the activation of inflammasomes, molecular platforms ...

Epithelial antimicrobial peptides in host defense against infection

One component of host defense at mucosal surfaces seems to be epithelium-derived antimicrobial peptides. Antimicrobial peptides are classified on the basis of their structure and amino acid motifs. Peptides of the defensin, cathelicidin, and histatin classes are found in humans. In the airways, alpha-defensins and the cathelicidin LL-37/hCAP-18 originate from neutrophils. beta-Defensins and LL-...

Improve Gut Health to cut Salmonella Infection

The Food Standards Agency has made it clear that it wants to see a reduction in the proportion of pigs found to be carrying Salmonella when they arrive at the abattoir. The most recent results published to date (2000) show that 23% of UK pigs arriving at abattoirs carry Salmonella in their gut with 5% of pig carcases and 8% of pork sausages testing positive for Salmonella. Cattle and sheep howe...

Cell-Mediated Defense against Infection

e principal function of the mammalian immune system is to combat infectious diseases. Immune responses to antigens and microbial pathogens are divided into those mediated by cells (i.e., cell-mediated immunity) and those mediated by antibodies (i.e., humoral immunity). e T lymphocyte, the “central player” in cell-mediated immunity, provides antigen speci€city and orchestrates the antimicrobia...
